As far as the BMW is concerned there are no real advantages to be seen between the 4 or the 6 DIP switch version. Infact if you find a really early 4 DIP version that actually had the IVE inbuilt into the Gateway itself.

I have the GW500 and when playong a track, I browse to another track using iDive, then select it and a pop-up menu appears. I select play but it doesn't play the newly selected track - just starts to play the current playing track again from the start ( I then repeat the process (browse to a new track using iDrive, select it, select play from pop-up menu) and from now on it will play the newly selected tracks
Next time I start the car - same problem for the first new track selection.
Anybody have same problem and any solution? Just updated to 2.16 f/w but it was same on 2.11. I have iPhone 2G and 3G and same on both.

I have being reading several threads on the GW 500 for some time now and decided it was what I was looking for so I paid a visit to local dension agent here in Dublin today. I want GW500, bluetooth and IVE. I have a 520d M sport 2006 with cdc most prewiring, no mp3 and business MASK (I think). They said the IVE wouldn't work even though I have a 3rd party video break in module (http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.ph...7&cat=0&page=1), anybody out there know a reason for this because they didn't.
I realise I need BMW to recode CCC and from what I have read there are two options ...1. MP3 retrofit, CDC enable and bluetooth enable or 2. IPOD enable and bluetooth enable. Would I be right? Is IPOD enable the better option as it would give it more of an OEM look?
With the IVE, ipod and video break in mod does video play on idrive when selected or does video break in mod have to be started after selection (press menu for 3 secs and select input from ipod)? I would think so. Also is video playback from a usb stick supported?
Any info to provide clarity on these issues before I buy and install myself (not much confidence in the agents after today) would be much appreciated.

some please help me on this, i installed a gw500 and love it, but i dont get the text up on my idrive screen is there anyway i can get this to work? i have the small idrive screen single slot cd player and cd changer, it plays perfect sound is clear but wish i had text up on screen,

Maybe you need to get your car programmed too.
what year is your car and what do you have? (Mp3 enabled? CDC?)

Could be how the dip switches set? Do you know what your GW500 dip switches set to?

im not sure if i have dip switchs, and im not sure if its mpe enabled, its 2003 53 530i se suto, small screen single slot with cdc, i have also just added the interface to make the center screen work
