What makes you think our E60 is any different from an E46? All they are doing in that DIY is tapping into the wire which alerts the factory security system of a intrusion. When the shock sensor detects a shock, it will show either a 12v signal or ground at the wire which is tapped into the motion sensor. The factory security computer then sees this signal as a detection of motion inside the car and triggers the alarm. This is not any different from how any other alarm works. Infact, DEI makes a kit which allows for any aftermarket alarm to communicate with the E60 CCM through the can bus lines, this would essentially make adding an alarm almost plug and play.
That sensor supports a low threshold "warning" with the idea fo setting off a "chirp" and higher threshold for setting off the alarm. You have any thoughts on how to support both thresholds?

Based on how the sensor is going to be installed, there really is no way to support to dual stages of the sensor. It looks as though the DIY is telling you to wire up the wire that supports the higher threshold shock. Since the factory alarm is not setup for a dual stage shock sensor, or any shock sensor, there is no way to properly implement the dual stage function.

I think I will take a look at the alarm loud speaker itself and see what it will take to make it do a quick chirp (bypass the electronics and drive the speaker directly).

Not sure why you think the E60 is any different from any other car. The E60 still uses normal wires to connect everything through out the car with the exception of the audio system. Any alarm including a remote start alarm could easily be added. Here is a wire color and location for every wire needed to add an aftermarket alarm with remote start function. Any installer should be able to obtain this information which would easily allow them to install any alarm into any E60.
WIRE COLOR POLARITY LOCATION
