In-dash navigation unit?

My car doesnt have navi and from what I gathered it would be around $2k to do a BMW retrofit. An in-dash pop out nav unit would be alot cheaper and less of a hassle. Thoughts/opinions?

Not a nav but shows you all the technical info of what needs to be cone to install one.
