It's not absolutely necessary, but it helps a lot.
The plastic cover can be deattached even when the actual backrest is still in its place.

 

Nice before setup inktoxicated! U have any pic of ur deck cut out by chance? And where did make the cut outs exactly?, my sub is going in a ported probox 112tb and the port I'd on the left side of the box, would still be ok?

 

Anyone have pics of there rear deck cutouts for the subs to vent into the cabin?

yea my setup looked good orginally but the bass output was shit. didnt get any bass in the car. it looks ghetto now but at least i can get bass. still wanna ditch the stock front 4 inch speakers and put 6.5's in the doors to get some mid bass. like i said in the pm look at the underside of the rear deck it should be preforated just cut along those lines.

I cut a hole where the ski port should be... didnt make a hole in the plastic cover though....and even with the armrest up, the difference of sound in the cabin is HUGE!

BIG improvement....!!!

 

Man I got my harness today and it literally took 15 mins to install the entire system with out any modification what so ever! A must have item, Thanks technic

Did you cut the plastic cover while it was installed or you took it out?
I know it has only two plastic rivits (kind of) at the bottom... I was trying to pull them, but didnt apply too much force as didnt want to break them .
