ok so i bought AFE intake a month or two ago and i love the sound it makes. But recently i have been reading and have also been told that the AFE intake is causing a loss of 20+hp compared to stock. I figure its possible because it is sucking in hot air. Is this true? i was thinking about putting back my stock and getting RPI scoops which would be the wise thing to do, but ill miss that great roar you get from AFE. What are my options? Is there any other intake that will increase HP and give me that roar? Dinan, is too expensive.Any suggestions?

That is debatable. Some says loss and some say gains..... IMO: The AFE sucks hot air in summer (I already tested it and the computer says 99 degrees Celsius!!! (outside 33 degrees C) with stopped car and engine running. but when you drive to 80km/h The air drops to mid 40.
The only best solution for this is to buy Heat Shields at HOME DEPOT. The temperature dropped a lots to mid 40 (much better) and at 80kph is almost the same as the outside temperature. And the RPM goes much faster and smoothly! Better with Scoops!!! whatever RPI or homemade...
AFE should provide us Heat Shields. IMO
Should I make a DIY for Heat Shields for AFE???? lol

PLease Diy for 530i if you can as well, the sides are surrounded but top is open, vice-versa for the 545i and 550i afe intake.

On a dyno situation where fans might not be optimal I might be able to believe a 20hp loss but on the road traveling at speed with all that air blowing into the engine bay I find it hard to believe that you could actually loose power with that intake. Has anyone actually measured air intake temps at speed (say 50+ mph) of stock VS afe? I have a obd2 computer that shows intake temps live... if anyone with afe wants to try in south fla I would be more than happy to set it up.
