I have no mud flaps BUT I have a lot of stone chips on the lower area in front of the rear wheels! This came after a 1500 km winter trip to northern Sweden.

It looks really bad.

 

No need for a formal poll. Majority response to this is get the flaps.
I find it odd that none of the other pictures I saw over the last few months showed a single car with flaps. I thought there was something wrong with them.
It looks like the responders here do wish to keep their cars clean as I do.
I suppose the term I need is mudflaps and not splash guards, but then the terms might differ from continent to continent?

 

In Singapore where there is a lot of rain, the mud flap is probably good.

 

Mud flaps are good for dry roads, too, or any surface where there is loose material. They not only protect your car, they protect any car following you.

 

But I feel that mudflaps make the E60 less sporty.

Possibly, in some minds. Truth is, I only notice them when washing the car and cleaning. No one has ever commented, pro or con. They are close to being a non issue as far as appearance goes. For me, the shark fin detracts more.

 

how hard of an install was it for those do it yourselfers?

 

You will be working with plastic pop rivetrs and a drill. Including the jacking and wheel removal, I would count on at least three or four hours. If you like driving more than DIY, I'd get a quote from a dealer wannabe.

 

I think they look fine especially on a Jet Black...barely noticible. I think I'm going to ask the dealer to throw them on before pick up...maybe I'll get a freebee
