Is it normal for coilovers to be creaking until the springs settle?

If they creak after a couple hundred miles they are not seated properly

I'm not sure what brand c/o's you have, but coil spring "creaking" usually occurs when the coils aren't seated tight enough between the top and bottom perches before the coils are loaded with the weight of the car. The quick fix is to take the load off the springs by jacking up the car, removing the wheel, and tightening the bottom perch snug enough to where it's snug, but you can still turn the coil with some effort. you don't want the add any more "pre-load' to the coil.
