My e60 is almost six years old, I am the original owner, 71k miles, 1st time cleaning the MAF. I used the CDC MAF cleaner.
Results- 4-5 mpg increase, much smoother and much faster.
AWESOME!
I suspect that the older the car is, the more benefit will be realized.
Also probably one of the easiest bits of maintenance one can do.
I think I'll wash the K/N tomorrow.

Just did this tonight prior to an 8-hour drive tomorrow. Looking forward to the results.

I just finished cleaning my MAF. Was pretty easy, and I didnt notice a DRASTIC change but it did help quite a bit. I still had vibration with heated seats, heated steering wheel and the heat in the car on (just to test) with those all off there was minimal. I'm going to finish the engine additives I got and 93 octane for the next little while.

Thanks again guys, I couldn't have done the MAF without the help of you guys.

Thanks for this very useful thread! Today I changed the Air filter as well as cleaned the Hot-film Mass Air Flow sensor on my 05 523i, and though nothing drastic, there was a perceptable improvement in smoothness, and throttle response. Also, they don't sell CRC MAF cleaner here, so i substituted for a electrical cleaner that does not leave any residue.
