Is it possible when everything is controlled from the iDrive computer thing? Surely when your software gets updated, it will loose any mods?

Your chipping company should re-load it for you... you bought the software rights to it from them...

Rare that the ECU is ever touched by the routine software updates we have seen. You would know if BMW had to get into the ECU. And as said elsewhere, the folks that do the mod usually state right up front that any thing BMW does that requires their software to be modified is under the terms of the original purchase price.

I did Powerchips for my car. What they did was they re-programme the ECU and i got better throttle response. In addition, it seems that i get better fuel economy too. Maybe about 15-20hp difference..

Abs, do you have a petrol or diesel?

Go into the "Parts, Accessories and Mods" forum and you'll find some remapping stories.

If you have a petrol car then the gains per ? are much smaller than for diesel, although you may still find it worthwhile. If you have a diesel - just do it!

Abs, just searched some of your posts and worked out a) you're in the UK and b) you have a 530d.

Myself and Banglebox both have D's remapped by DMS... and we love them! I've actually organised a discount with DMS for E60 forum members - if you are interested, let me know.

Abs, Have also heard good things about tuningbox.com........given that they are more than 50% cheaper than DMS......if cost is a factor........you may want to consider them too.
For the 525d the box costs 430 Euros.........you'd get change from ?300.
I am also considering this.......but still waiting for the car to 'break-in'.

From what I understand about the tuningbox upgrade, you can do this yourself in a few minutes. It can also be removed just as quickly - i.e. before going in for service.

How do these boxes compare to something like a DMS remap ?
