I have been looking for places to adjust the chip of my '06 530i (prod date Jun-05) to gain some extra HPs.

I found a shop where they say there's a software download which takes a couple of hrs and costs about $400.

They say it results in a gain of about 25 HP and 25 lbtq plus gas mileage improvement, and also the top speed limiter will be erased.

Is that true? Any inputs, experiences, complications, etc...?

No idea, but you might want to check with Nerweezy from Trinity and see what he can do for you. Not sure I would trust a company I have never heard of, especially with a tech heavy car like ours.

i don't know the brand name and don't even know if there's any, he said it's a download into the car computer that takes about 2 hrs.

I only want to know if this is realistic, if by doing a software download they can add HPs, and if that's the case, would it cause any issues with the computer down the road...

There are plenty of threads on this board concerning ECU remaps. You may want to use the search function to find them.

use the trusted ones. We're talking about remapping ur ECU not putting an exhaust on ur car or some simple lights.

I agree, but what are the trusted ones, do I just judge by price? I've seen some chips that sell online for $89; but this I think it's different as I would have to take the car to their shop and it costs $400, so it's not cheap.

As far as trust, what are the trusted brand names and procedures to do this?

At least you have to make sure your car is not under warranty, because if you take it for service I think they reset all the software.
