I paid $399 for mine ten years ago and other than replacing some of the accessories, I've had no problems with it. Well worth it IMO.
If you decide to get a used one, make sure that the serial number hasn't been removed and is legible, otherwise, Valentine Research will NOT perform any repairs or upgrades.

My V1 has saved me MANY times..... Although the arrow's can confuse themselves when getting close to a signal, I like the fact that it lets me know when a trooper is coming up behind me.

V1 is overrated.. Arrows smarrows..
I rather have the new passport 9500xi that detects traffic light camera, speed trap, and storing all the false alarms via GPS.

Just curious:
How does it detect a traffic light camera and a speed trap (like VASCAR for example)?
How do you store the false alarms?
How does it notify you of a valid "bogey" that may be hiding within a false alarm?

Valentine One Radar Detector

like everyone else said that's the standard price. it's better to pay $399 and buy a new product in the box (with warranty and free updates) then get it from ebay for 50 bucks cheaper and being not sure of it's quality

Uses GPS positions stored in a database to notify you when you are close to a known position (updates via their website I think) or false alarm that you mark
VASCAR...well what detector CAN safeguard you against that? You can mark a GPS location if you notice cops stopping people with that method.
It also notices changes in signal of a GPS stored false alarm to see if there is a "bogey" hiding in that location.
There is an expert mode that breaks out the radar signals into K, KA and X and you can see a trace for each "bogey"

PS. If you have an old V1 then you should probably have it updated even if it seems to be working fine.

I don't have either V1 or 9500 (I'm seriously in need of a new detector also) but I have been doing research:

I've looked into getting it updated a few years back. You can actually input the serno on their website to see what upgrades are due. The only prominent feature was that the upgrade allowed for the detection of European radar signatures. Ironically, all those years I was in Germany my V-1 was kept in storage and here in the states the issue is moot. I even had one of their phone reps tell me the upgrade really wasn't necessary in my case unless the V-1 breaks - at which point the upgrade becomes a complete refurbishment.

valentine is the best and a conceled kit is highly recommended...also if u are a speeder i would reccomend a laser jammer...it used to be as cops would drive with their radar guns on and valentine would pick em right up..now cops are hiding around and using laser guns and they dont keep their radar guns on anymore..i got stopped...doing 90 in a 50 zone by a laser..he was just sitting thr i saw him valentine went off with the laser alert..and i knew i was F*#?%d...luckly i had a pba card i apologized and he let me go ...
laser jammer?
