I saw someone else here at a 2006 525 and they had the charcoal filter. If I have one I am definetly gonna remove it. Im also going to get a K&N this week.

Have you considered the BMC filter from RPI Power? I believe these are available from r1racer (Joe) and Nerweezy (Nerwyll).

Took mine out last night, took 2 minutes and all hooks came out attached to the filter. Had some leaves and sand in the airbox, no styrofoam. This is not my everyday car so I have only driven about 2 miles since removing. Didn't notice significant change in exhaust sound, but seemed to have a little smoother acceleration above 4000 rpm, could just be my imagination too. A little boost in mpg would be nice too as I only avg. 15-17 in mixed driving. But who buys a 545 and worries about mpg anyway?

I just did this today. I ran my 550i hard to get a feel for it. and then removed the charcoal filter. Mine was vibration welded (plastic melted together) in the corners to stay in place. A screwdriver under one side popped it out.

I notice a bit more intake noise (am I crazy) and it seems to pull stronger up top. I always like free mods.

So now that it's been a few years since most people did this, has anyone had any problems? I just discovered this thread, looks like it'll give me something to do the next warm day..

Did mine today and noticed same thing....bastards melted the cover to the box. Nothing a good screwdriver couldn't undo, though...as stated above.

A little crazy glue will put it back together when I turn it in...if I bother at all.
