Chains?

Those might be tough to put chains on. You could always jack it up to put them on, but that wouldn't be much fun either. I had no problem putting chains on my 225/50R17's though. The only difficulty you would have is because of the width of your tires though, not the diameter. The overall diameter of your wheels is 25.58 inches which is actually slightly smaller than my 25.86 inches. Although you do have the sport package so your car is lower. Tough call.
Spoke to the guy at Spikes Spider. He said that since their product does not go all the way around to the inside back of the tires as chains do, it shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't try to put regular chains on the car, but I wonder if these will work.

1. I don't know if their steel hub would mount onto our tires
2. I don't like the look of the steel hub mounted on the tires
3. It doesn't cover the whole wheel, it looks like maybe 25% of it, so I'd feel sketchy about actually getting good traction
4. You can bend the "arms" of the Spikes Spider which makes it seem like it wouldn't hold up very well for traction
5. I don't like the look of the whole thing after it's mounted
6. It seems like it would scratch up your rims, especially if anything happened to get in between the cover and your wheel
I wouldn't put regular chains on my car either, I'd definitely go with cable chains.

I've never put cable chains on mine, but there appears to be enough room. I suspect the BMW warning is another one of those paranoid U.S. lawyer things. I think you can return unused cable chains for a full refund if they don't fit. Look here: http://www.tirechain.com/P275-35-18.htm
Thanks!

Thanks -- this link you sent might be the best choice since they're specifically made for lower profile tires.

I don't know how I feel about the Spikes Spider things.

You might be right -- cable chains might be the best thing. I don't know if BMW is including them in their warning about chains in general. Cable chains usually fit very tightly and I'd think they wouldn't be a problem, but I'm just not sure.

Well, I don't know where you're located, but I'd be more than happy to sell you my wheels and give you my chains for free if you're interested.
