wolverine/MrB -- will this mod endanger your warranty?
Doubtful, since BMW doesn't think that CDV's are necessary in the "M" cars. In my case, I replaced the stock one with another stock one that had had the restrictor bits punched out, so from the outside, it looks totally stock. Since I am not in the habit of dumping the clutch, I would think that my clutch will only see extended life from the mod.

I ordered my CDV from David today - so I am on my way. I spoke with our local dealer, and they where very pragmatic on the warrenty issue. If there is any premature clutch ware attributed to that part, then it will not be covered under warenty. It dosn't void any other part warenties.

Of course, I will get someone else to install it and challange the dealer to tell I have it swaped out... just to be safe.

Installed a clutch-stop (just velcro'd a small block of wood to the floor under the pedal). What a difference - eliminated about 2" of clutch pedal travel. Less leg fatique, quicker, smoother shifts. Mr. Belk you were right - this is the way to go for those of us who are really into shifting!
Could you take a pic of your mickey-rigged clutch stop and where exactly you positioned it? Did you have any issues with the clutch-position ignition switch?

Thanks,
-MrB

Sure I'll post some pic's - as long as I don't get any *#&! for it being 'mickey'.
It works really well, no problem with the clutch position ignition switch - I don't see one on the E60.

Wolverine,

After installing the clutch stop are you able to start the car. I talked with people at UUC motorwerks and they said if I install a clutch stop I may not be able to start the car as I will not be able to depress the clutch fully. Thanks in advance

Car starts just fine. I know the M3's had an ingnition switch that was located on the floor that was activated by the clutch pedal. I haven't seen this on my 545.

Here's a pick of the 'Mickey-stop'. Just a piece of wood with velcro stuck to the floor. I put velcro on the 'pedal' side just to damp the sound of the pedal hitting the wood. Works beautifully, and I can adjust it just by moving it up and down.

Is there anyone who can find out what the optimum width for the clutch should be?

I just had my stock CDV replaced with a modified CDV from Dave Z. All I can say is the difference is noticable and I like it. In particularr, my 1st-2nd shifts are much smoother. I think the benefit is well worth the $120 (35 for CDV and $85 to install). If you like driving fast and agressively, then do yourself a favor and delete or replace your CDV.
