Good day - I did not get the CD changer with my car and thought I would just add it later myself. I now do not think that is possible with the iDrive. Do I have to go to the dealer and buy the OEM with the dealer installling it and programming the iDirve or is there an aftermarket one thant can be purchased and done myself? Thank you.

If you bought OEM you could use it through the i-Drive. If you bought aftermarket then you would probably have to use an FM modulator to use it and no i-Drive.

Hi MJMount:

Welcome to "Chris Bangles" and "BMW's" little Hi tech World, .

Just kidding but seriously, yes, that BMW E60 Genus, and his BMW team has made it almost impossible to add a CD changer to oue E60s without going back to our friendly $$$ BMW dealer, and purchase their BMW CD changer unit that has to be programmed there at the BMW dealer to work with our idrive. I know this because like you. I thought well I will buy my 5 series now I will go to the www and purchase me a hi quality CD changer later and have it installed maybe at Circuit City or hi-fi Buys (Tweeter), and just add it on with no problem,,,, but I was wrong! (LOL)

Now where I live in Atlanta Georgia at my BMW dealer my 6 disc CD changer cast approx.: $600.00 - 750.00 installed last April 2004. Yes, it is pricey, $$$, but the BMW quality is there! I am glad I went ahead a bought the factory BMW CD changer, and if something goes wrong with is its under BMW factory warranty!

I am glad that Chris Bangle is at BMW. My personal opinion, Chris Bangle is BMW's very own "Carroll Shelby." Chris has done much, along with his BMW team in the way they designed our E60s the way the did.

We will see what the futures hold for our E60s, but no doubt a good investment for years to come. I have owned two new corvettes, one new 2004 Jaguar S type, now they were nice, but none of them can even come close to my new 04 E60 530i,

In conclusion, I wish you the best in your hunt for your E60 CD changer. but be prepared for the worst $$$ case you might have to do as I did and go back to your dealer to have in installed with your idrive, but it should now cost much over $600.00 for the factory BMW CD changer installed with BMW warranty.

Sincerely about a broke $$$$ 2004 530i owner,

Presley 348
