I am due for new pads and rotors. My idrive system is telling me that my pads are "at minimum." And I have a pretty significant lip worn into my rotors. I bought the car used with 50,000 miles on it and it now has 75,000. I am not sure when, if ever, the rotors were replaced while under warranty by the previous owner. Either way, I am going to replace both.

Do I also need to change the sensors? Do I need any other parts that are not obvious? I have changed brakes on other cars, however, they were not all computer controlled like the bimmer. I just don't want to screw anything up.

Also, I have found a few DIY's on other models but none on the E60. Am I ok following the others, i.e. are the brakes fairly the same on other models?

And last but not least...I have had problems reseting the service warnings on idrive. Is it really necessary now that I am way out of the factory warranty? Can I just keep track of when my maintenance is due and ignore the little "car on lift" on my display?

Thanks in advance for everyones input

You need new sensors when your change your brakes. 'Maintenance reset' threads on this site will show you how to reset your Idrive. Very simple to do!
