OK, I hate to admit how mechanically lame I am, but I don't have a clue on how to install brake pads. Everyone says it's easy and I'd love to save the $100 the tire store will charge to install them, but I am not very brave when it comes to messing with my car. I want to buy a set of Axxis pads and install them myself. Does anyone have a DIY with photos for a 545?

Also, for those of you who already purchased Axxis pads where did you find the best price?

I don't see a pad replacement DIY there. Discs, yes, but no pads.

I urge you to enlist the support of a friend or relative who has actually done a brake pad/disc R&R on a recent BMW to be handy.

Some 'special' tools are necessary [torx/hex sockets, etc]. I would also tell you to plan to do it when your local auto parts store - one that stocks BMW car parts - is open. Ask me how I know! In other words, don't start this job at 5 on a Sunday afternoon!

Make arrangements to have another mode of transportation readily available...don't block your other cars in the drive when you start the work ... you may need to drive somewhere to get something ... Don't ask me how I know !!

NEVER get under your car w/o jack stands ...

Have at least one full case of beer available - to celebrate when the job is done ... OR to drink while you ask yourself why the hell you decided it was worth saving $100 in the first place. Ask me how I know
