So lets see if I understand this:

I need a relay/resistor combo for each side (left and right).
Positive feed from car connects to 85 and 30 on the relay.
Ground connects to 86.
87 connects to positive on LED.

Where do I connect the ground from the LED?

And I connect the resistor to both positive and ground leads from the car?

Ground LED is the same ground as 30 on relay. It does not matter where you get that ground.
Connect Positive wire of existing license plate light to pin 85.

So what exactly are you gaining from this mod compared to just buying LEDs and replaced them in existing holder?

That's the positive lead from the car right?

And do I connect the resistor to both positive and ground leads from the car? I don't understand where the resistor goes based on your diagram.

Does Fry's Electronics sell relays? Where can I buy them from?

These OEM LED's diffuse the light better than the Festoon LED's giving more light coverage over plate. The lighting is less harsh looking and should technically not burn out.

Is this the same thing?

I'm gonna stop by Fry's on my way home. What resistors should I pick up? I can always return the ones I don't use. I just don't want to have to go back out again. Let me know!

OK. I just replaced current festoon with LED one along with 25W/30-Ohm resistor and it works perfectly fine.
The higher ohmage, the cooler the resistor will be, but if it's too high, little current will be drawn from LCM which does trigger warning.
Here is the 25W/30-Ohm power resistor.

The pic you have for relay is correct.

Thanks for the update Fred. I picked up a handful of different resistors from Fry's and luckily a 25W/30-Ohm resistor was one out of the bunch I picked up! Hah. I'll test and post my results tomorrow.

I didn't get the relay because it's too big to fit through the hole for the plate light housing (about 1 cm too wide). Do they make smaller sized ones? I couldn't find any at Fry's at least.
