Are you certain of this? Doesn't sound normal. I would think programs should be retained in non-volatile memory?
Even the radio stations had to be reprogrammed

Those of you who are using the BMW car charger are you hooking it up to the emergency + under the hood or directly connecting it to the batter in the trunk?

Under the hood, The positive is under the red plastic clip and the negative is the lug near the drivers side strut tower. Never charge directly from battery.

What does everybody recommend for a battery charger to use at home to keep my battery fully charged? Costco offers a couple for about $60...I'd love to get some first hand advice.
TIA

The BMW charger that I bought last year (P/N 82 11 0 026 663, list: $69, paid: $53 at Circle BMW) has a cigarette lighter plug. It goes directly into the cigarette lighter or one of the aux power outlets. The only problem is that when it is plugged in with the engine off, the car does not recognize the charger and it doesn't charge. I have to start the car, plug in the charger and stop the car again. Then it works.

I actually bought the charger for my wife's '06 330i. She drives mostly short distances and frequently got a low battery warning. However, since the last software update this seems to be solved. So far I never had to use the charger for my 550i (13,000 miles in 9 months - keeps the battery always well charged )

How the hell could I come up with cigarette lighter in the first place??? In this day and age where state legislators contemplating to make it illegal to smoke in your own car.
Ban all cigarette lighters and replace them with phone plugs!!!
