Under the hood, The positive is under the red plastic clip and the negative is the lug near the drivers side strut tower. Never charge directly from battery.

I actually bought the charger for my wife's '06 330i. She drives mostly short distances and frequently got a low battery warning. However, since the last software update this seems to be solved. So far I never had to use the charger for my 550i (13,000 miles in 9 months - keeps the battery always well charged
)
