What does everybody recommend for a battery charger to use at home to keep my battery fully charged? Costco offers a couple for about $60...I'd love to get some first hand advice.

how long do you have to let your car sit in the garage that battery will be drained? I am just wondering why you need a charger to keep it fully charged. I left my car in the garage for more than 2 weeks (almost 3) and battery never drained. Started right up when I came back. I always lock it even if it is parked inside my garage all the time.

 

i don't understand, why do u need a battery charger for? the car won't drain your battery, but it will if you've installed any type of aftermarket gadgets (e.g. dvd players, etc.) that is always on and that power supply is coming direct from the battery or so...try checking it out if there are gadgets installed...

 

Mine , i need to start the or run it once a day , as i have the message of HIGH RATE OF BATTERY DISCHARGED , so when ever i leave the car for more than 3 days i got a complete flat battery , so i just brought a battery charger , i even changed the IBS , but still the same , this is due from the date i installed the ACM module.

 

Most of my driving is short, around town trips. This combined with the issue of constantly having my CD player shuffle the CDs, has made my battery die on several occasions. My only aftermarket gadget is my hardwired V1 which is completely off until starting the car. I'm convinced that the car fails to go into "sleep" mode properly. I noticed the dealers also use chargers for showroom cars. Does anybody here use a charger?...which model?

 

You need to use the BMW charger. You can buy it at www.bavauto.com for about $60. I use mine when I leave the car for a week or more.

In fact I discovered that a trickle charge from a regular car charger is not recognized by the computer in our cars. It puts nothing on the battery. The BMW charger does give a float charge that will keep your battery constantly charged without cooking it.

 

I have drained my battery and now use the BMW charger. With all the computer controlled electronics in these cars a battery can drain itself quite easily within a 3-4 week period,onced drained it has to be hauled back to the dealer and reprogrammed .

Those of you who are using the BMW car charger are you hooking it up to the emergency + under the hood or directly connecting it to the batter in the trunk?

 

Are you certain of this? Doesn't sound normal. I would think programs should be retained in non-volatile memory?
