^^^^^^ What he said.

Install might be done by yourself, but activation needs to be done by the dealer.

I called my local dealer yesterday and they quoted me $270 ($70 for the part, $200 for the installation) to install the aux port. She also said that I can then control the iPod from the steering wheel buttons but I just won't see song titles on the screen. Is that true? From what I read above, looks like you can't control the iPod at all.

Another SA who doesn't know what he/she is talking about. You will not be able to control anything other than volume from your steering wheel. The idrive interface kit is still under development by Apple and BMW.

Your dealer has to be Stevens Creek BMW. Print out the AUX installation instruction and bring it to them because number of hour charge is on it. Part should be $70+ labor shown on the instruction. I had mine installed at SCBMW and they charge me one hour or so $150 + part.

Your dealer is thinking of the iPod connector, which conflicts with CD changer--but is not yet available on E60.

You can get the aux input installed (instructions attached below)--I did, and did a hardwire install of my iPod--here's info:

I had mine done at Fremont BMW. The installation looks pretty complicated. They took half the dash apart and had to completely reload the software because the system crashed when they were trying to load the software for the AUX port.
I think it costed me over $300 including parts!

BTW, I am not super happy with it because the Aux port needs a amplifier to get much volume out of my MP3(not an Ipod..it is a Creative lab zen jukebox)

With my set up (see link above) I get audio through a line out (not a headphone jack), which may be the issue with your configuration. The headphone jacks are optimized for headphones and are, by design, lower volume and fidelity than a clean line out.

You may have a problem. I use two different devices, each with only headset outputs and both give me booming audio. I grant that line out is better, but still I have very good audio level. Just barely less than CD or radio. Some installs have not been done correctly. Can you borrow someone elses player, have an old portable cd player or other method of using another source. Would tell you if your player or install is the culprit.
