If you're using an iPod, try turning on its equalizer.

The EQ helps out a bit but it tends to make the bass sound flat.

FYI I use lame-3.96.1 w/ -b256 -ms -h from extracted original cd's via EAC.

Has anybody thought of connection the optical out from your mp3-player (iriver h140 has this) on the digital link going from the CD-Changer to the head unit ?

If I understand well the CD-changer is connected via a digital (optical fibre) link to the main system.

Does anyone know if a digital input is available on the cd-changer ?

Would it be possible to wire the mp3 digital out to the same input slot as the cd-changer ?

This should result in the best possible data transfer, including no influence at all on the bass.

The entire audio system (with the exception of the aux input, if installed) is connected using the MOST system, which has it's benefits, but the downside is that connecting any additional items to the system is problematic. MOST info here:

I got it installed 6 months ago and use my iPod all the time with not issues--am very happy with it. While not an over-the-top audiophile, I enjoy my music and wouldn't be happy with lousy sound, and the iPod through the aux input sounds great. I ripped at a pretty high bit rate (used EAC w/ LAME @ 256kbps VBR & normalized with MP3Gain) so perhaps that makes a difference. Also have the iPod equalizer on using rock setting.

Another suspected area of problems is the MP3 players themselves. Most of them (and this is documented) roll off the bass frequencies so as not to damage headphones. The IPod line all do this.

Best way to tell if you truly have a bass problem in the Aux Input is to connect up a player that has a LINE out, not a headphone out.
Line out for the iPods...
