If you've never done a basic brake pad R&R it might be scary. You will need some basic tools to remove the calipers to clean, degrease, and paint. Then all will need to be reassembled. You might want to enlist a nearby friend with the right tools and experience to help you.

I've done mine. Another consideration is what color, of course. I found some paint that matches the blue of the roundel. Looks great on my black 550i.

There are DIY's I believe for this if you search the forum. However, I have never touched a brake pad or caliper in my life, much less disassembled one. I have a shop in town that is going to be doing mine in spring. I just am not mechanically inclined....and I have done lots of my own mods...but this I'm trusting to the pros. Others here will have a differing opinions. Me? I don't have the tools or time necessary, so leaving it to the pros.

like I posted in your other thread (and in my sig), the search function is a useful tool:

https://5series.net/forums/index.php?showto...l=caliper+paint

***not sure what type of kit you purchased, but most don't require removing the caliper...there are other less invasive diy's that involve removing the wheel, sanding the areas to be painted down, cover all areas that you don't want to get painted (rotor), and letting it dry....(all with the caliper still attached)

really, a kit? never thought nor heard of a "kit" to paint calipers before. maybe it's the best because it's the "only" kit around? lol

just buy a can of Caliper paint (ceramic type) from your local autoparts store, a wire brush and a can of brake parts cleaner. (there, thats my kit haha) remove the pads and spring. if you haven't done brakes before then i'd suggest you find someone who has help you here, as previously mentioned. now rest the entire caliper assy on the rotor, but before you do, be sure to cover the rotor with a medium size plastic trash bag to protect from overspray. now clean the heck out of the calipers with the brush and cleaner. once dry, fill the inside of caliper with crumpled newspaper making sure you cover the piston completely. also cover the surrounding parts in wheel well with newspaper just in case. you can now spray the exterior of your calipers. go easy on the paint, you don't want any runs. apply 2-3 coats lightly and be consistent in your spray pattern. good luck

on a scale of 1-5 wrenches, i'd say the brakes are 3 - 3.5 wrenches, shocks and springs 3.5 - 4 wrenches and clutch would be an emphatic 5!!

Spray on wheel cleaner, scrub, rinse, let dry. Rough up calipers a bit with sandpaper. Wipe with alcohol. Spray with high-temp paint from Pepboys/Autozone. Three or four coats ought to do it. Put a little tape around the rotors to prevent too much oversparay (a little won't hurt). Also, you should paint the hubs while you have the wheels off. Otherwise you'll have that rusty look eventually.
