Hey
Thinking about putting an iPod or something like that into my car to be able to listen to mp3s. saves me all those cd-rs and is better for the cd drive :-)
Anyone knows a good ipod solution, something that I can control via my steering wheel, etc.?
I heard of something that the US ppl get u installed. They don't have that in Germany here.
Another question:
the new 7 series facelift plays mp3s now.
Does anyone know if I get my e60 built in march if I'll be able to play mp3s too? or is it a 7 series exclusive thing at the moment?
thanks in advance for the replies

I believe currently you can get the AUX input for the iPod in Germany too as all E60s now have the AUX connector that can get connected in your glove box, but you dont have full iDrive control yet.
BUT, happily, BMW is working with Apple to offer a BMW iPod that will work via Bluetooth and be fully integrated into iDrive. There isnt a release date yet, but it will be sometime this year
I have seen the details on the E65 CD changer having the ability to play MP3's, im sure it will filter down the the E60 before long, but probably only work with Logic 7 set up...
One other thing to point out though, mp3's sound lousy loud. They are ok in headphones but the degradation is horrible loud, imho, and if you play it say through the Logic 7 system its gonna sound like crap... i would suggest storing your music as AIFF files for full sound clarity playback. Theres no reason to have a great stereo if the music files are gonna make it sound cheap

I guess I'll wait for the ipod thing...
and until then... I'll just use the CDs :-)
If I have a CD Changer (I will have logic7)... will I have something like a single cd drive in my cockpit? where I can just switch CDs safely while driving?

Cool :-)
So that should be alright.
Does anyone know if CD-Rs are bad for your CD drive or cd changer?
It seems that I killed my changer in my 728i last year with cd-rs...
anyone any ideas? and what about cd-rws? are they even worse?

The upper one is a single CD player, the one below is a DVD drive for the nav DVD.
You can play CD's on both, allthough you will never use the DVD drive for anything else than the nav DVD.

One thing to remember is music cd-players dont lik ethe new high speed cd-r's. They dont read the new ink very well
Best is to buy "Music CD-R" which are a bit more expensive unfortunately, and then burn them at a slow speed ( up to 12X speed ). They should then easily work in any cd-player.
The Music CD-R's use the old slow speed ink which is more compapble with music cd players
