Hello!
I've searched for this, but nothing really satisfying found:
Has anybody successfully retrofitted an oil tempertature gauge to his E60 non-M5 ?
Please don't answer what's the best way to warm-up an E60 and please don't post about the white marks on the rev. counter. - I know them and there's already another thread for this.
I really would like to have a discussion of what's the best location and best product to add.
I've already googled a little for after-market oil-temp-gauges, but I've found only those round models (2 1/16") which are too big in my sense. I'm looking for some small illuminated rectangle LCD which could be placed left beside the speedo.
Anybody an idea/solution?
Thanks, Cu Lanikus

May be you can look at an Audi for ideas. They have a little red gauge that may look proper in a BMW.

There does not seem to be an existing one on normal E60s; the only temp measurement I've ever seen is based on coolant, not oil (the "Oeltemp" menu item does not even exist in my car cluster menu, but someone reported seeing it)
Replacing the current "on/off" low oil pressure with a temp sensor is a bit risky - never mind the amount of stick you are going to get from the iDrive. Unless you are prepared to drill an extra hole in the engine block, or know where there is one ready to get a probe

My Ride: (USA) 645Ci, Silver Gray, Chateau, Cold Weather PKG, Premium Sound PKG, Sport PKG, Step, NAV [Std Equip in 645], HUD, Satellite (SIRIUS) Radio, Aux Input, Bluetooth enabled using iPhone 3GS w/ adapter cradle - Build date - 01/05, Baby delivered 2/24/05
Check out e63/e64s and e92s (at least the 335i)
They all have OEM Oil Temp gauge so the proper probes, meters, etc exist for both V8s and I6s.
