I seriously would not worry about an Ipod draining your battery and causing the electrical system problems tbh mate.......

Thanks for the reply. It seems like mine is still drawing a charge when I shut the car off? I still see the BMW symbol on the iPod and it says its connected. Just wondering how long it stays like that. I haven't checked on it after a few hours because last night was the first time I forgot to unplug it.
Mark is right. It may stay on for 15 minutes or so until the car goes in to sleep mode. Then everything gets shut down. I promise, unless there is some poor connection that prevents the car from entering sleep mode, the iPod will not drain the battery...

I remember reading somewhere that there was a limitiation on the number of MP3's . playlists, total songs etc. that you are able to see through the ipod adapter.

I seem to recal a limit of 256 for each....is this true?

I have about 3000 MP3's on my ipod so I would like to access the entire library if I can.

From what I understand, there's a 256 "Folder" structure limit. Which means, you will not see more than 256 genres, artist, albums, playlists etc. All of these are considered "folders" in an iPod file structure. In each of these folders, you can have 500 songs. I have 5000 songs in my iPod, and through playlists, you can organize it so you have access to all your songs. Imagine let's say, 50 different playlists x 200 songs in each, That's 10,000 songs so it's all about how you organize you iPod. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong please so I can edit)

the IPOD integration kit limitation list is 500.

If you have the BMW Ipod kit, you can create playlists that can seperate by letter of artists and songs. It'll be easier to search.

I can guarantee this because i had the ipod kit and now i have the dension which is 100 times better.

A total of 500 songs? Been more than a year since I got rid of my old car but that doesn't sound right. I think Turbogte is more on track but I can't recall for sure. But the Dension does offer things the OEM kit doesn't and does not seem to have any limitations like the OEM.

Yes, total of 500 songs. IF you load the IPOD and wait till everything loads, the list only goes up to 500. however you can keep on selecting next to go further in the list, you just cannot see the name of the track and any info.

That's very good news to the OP. i dropped off my car today to the dealership to have my iPod integration kit updated on the system (non-NAV, CD changer removed, build date 09/03).
i got a call from my SA around 2pm that my system wont update. i talked to the tech he said it wont let him update it, something is wrong. he cant tell which component is wrong. and to put icing on the cake, SA told me just to diagnose what is wrong i have to shell out $570.00.
yes, $570!!! just to find out what is wrong. i have extended warranty to 100,000 and easy care as 3rd party warranty and he said it wont be covered by neither.
bummer, i really wanted the iPod on my car so i said go ahead and do it and find out why. turns out that sunroof leaked water and shorted some of the wires.. i really hope this will be covered. but what is odd is when i installed the ipod integration and hooked up my ipod, i got the BMW logo, but on i-drive the CD1, CD2..etc is grayed out. so i thought its just a software issue.

any input i would really appreciate it. thanks!

Same thing happened to me. Took forever to update.

Something was wrong with one of my computers in my car, they replaced it under warranty. I believe it was one of the fiber optic connections. The TCU I believe was being difficult. They replaced it and it finally updated.

Hope that helps man.

I am now having doubts about wanting to fit an ipod kit, sounds like there are alot of risks with having an update applied. Interestingly though the dealer never mentioned this, they only said that it could be problematic and they would need the car the whole day. There was no mention of potentially having to replace modules, I have to say I dont fancy the idea of having to shell out ???'s just to get an ipod adapter working. The trouble is that i have already purchased the kit and I doubt they would accept it back. My car is a 2004 and I have a Scotsure warranty, i doubt they would cover any module issues relating to the updates.

Am I worrying out nothing, any thoughts.
