Took my car in for service for brakes and told them about my 6 disc changer problems but there not covered anymore ugh, so i asked for a estimate to yank out the changer and install the ipod kit. The SA also told me there could be a software update thrown in also due to the seat air bag recall! fingers crossed

Well that was a bust 3 days and they couldnt even wire in a AUX port. I guess the software wouldn't load to a module not being right. Oh the AUX port does require a idrive upgrade thats what i was told
I have a 2004 build date of 12/2003 CIP 21, no nav, but a cd changer installed..whats the next step?

My car is 2004 530i 12/03 built. NO NAVIGATION, NO CD CHANGER (but prewired), does NOT play MP3 CDs. I've read many different threads where I had hope that the iPod kit would work and others that discouraged me as it seemed like an impossible mission to make it work on older E60's. After ordering my OEM iPod kit and installing it which took 15 minutes about 2 weeks ago, I finally took it in this morning to Braman BMW (Miami) to get it programmed. At around 4PM, they called me saying it was ready which bought a smile on my face, because there was no bad news from the SA. Picked up the car and plugged in my iPod right away and saw the "loading CD information" message.
IT WORKS!!!!. The sound is amazing. I've been using a Belkin FM transmitter for my iPod and please guys, don't waste your hard earned cash on these items. Especially if you live in a big city. A lot of static noise, very low volume, you constantly have to change the channel because of interference. I had started to doubt the sound quality of the iPod with the retrofit kit as I only expected a slight improvement in quality from the FM transmitter. BOY was I wrong!!!! The sound quality, the clarity, the volume gain, words cannot described.

GREAT post! I know this thread is quite old now, and you've moved on to the Dension Gateway 500, but I have a 2004 530i 11/2003 production, non-NAV, CD Changer pre-wired (but not installed), CIP 21.00.00, can not play MP3 CDs car. I am having a heckuva time finding the right unit to integrate the iPod with iDrive. I contacted one service group, a BMW dealer, and they tell me that I need part no. 65 11 0 439 429, since I'm pre-wired, but not installed. However, I see you had the 65 11 0 036 448, which has been replaced now by 65 11 0 439 425. Apparently the one I need was the old 65 11 0 036 446, now the 65 11 0 439 429, which is on national backorder :-(
Anyone know how to make heads or tails of this, as it pertains to my 530i? And know will and will not work? Even better yet, knows what will work and where I can get one?
Thanks!
