Greg, who is your SA at Braman? My car is under the warranty so I am going to try something not sure what yet, I do have the CD changer in my car. Thanks.
The guys name is Ray. He's a friend of this guy I know who also works there, but they didn't really do much to help as far as pricing. I was just charged 1.5 hours of labor. But at least I didn't have to go trough all the service sales pitch or trying to convince them that it can be done. It was a quick walk in, walk out experience. Tell him Greg the guys with the white 530 who just did his iPod sent you.

However, as you will see in the pics below, the CD options are MP3 1, MP3 2, MP3 3 etc NOT the CD 1, CD 2 ..... I expected. You will also see that in between MP3 4 and MP3 6 there's a CD 5 which I'm not sure why.
CD 5 is for Podcasts. if you have any podcasts or audio books on your iPod they will show up under CD 5.

I got a retrofit kit ordered today, after reading this I cant wait to get my ipod back in the car. I really miss it and having to burn playlists for the cd changer, I wonder when the dealer can fit me in to get the ipod kit activated. I can fit the kit on Thursday night assuming it arrives on Thursday.

This post should be a sticky, I have seen recent posts asking about 2004 E60's and ipods..

I recently had my 04 545i fitted with the ipod interface, too, and it is freakin fantastic. Worth every penny.

Question, though...I've always been diligent to unplug my ipod each time I get out of the car because I noticed it continues to stay "powered on" or charge even after the ignition has been shut off and key removed. However, last night I forgot to unplug it. It hit me this AM and my heart sunk yet my car fired right up with no trouble at all. How did this not suck the battery dry? Does it eventually time out and shut down? Do you guys leave your ipods connected when not in use?

Thanks in advance.

from what I've gathered, the M-ASK (non-nav) unit does not support in-dash MP3s until sometime in 05. The cd changer port, however, can, with the iPod retrofit coding. The nav unit (CCC) can do both once it is MP3-retrofit coded regardless of build date.
About a couple of months ago I have had mp3 enabled in my car using the mp3 bulletin, free under warranty (build date 7/2005). They said it will take a while (several hours) to do this. I dropped my car off in the morning and around 2:00pm the SA called and said that they were busy and just starting to work on my car and wasn't sure if they will be able to finish it by the end of the day. So at about 5:00 I got to the dealership and he said my car is hooked to the computer right now for the update and it might still take another 6-to-8 hours so gave me a loaner for the day and told me to check in the morning. Next day it was ready and mp3 working.
BUT mp3 only works in the in-dash cd and dvd player and NOT in the CDC in the glove box. They did not say if the software version has been upgraded or not on the invoice, just said mp3 enabled but it took such long time to do just that.
I guess I can ask them next time about my software version.

On my 2004 545, the iPod was left in the glove box, always plugged in. I only removed it to update the music, never had issues with battery discharge. It powers down when the car does...

Thanks for the reply. It seems like mine is still drawing a charge when I shut the car off? I still see the BMW symbol on the iPod and it says its connected. Just wondering how long it stays like that. I haven't checked on it after a few hours because last night was the first time I forgot to unplug it.
