However, as you will see in the pics below, the CD options are MP3 1, MP3 2, MP3 3 etc NOT the CD 1, CD 2 ..... I expected. You will also see that in between MP3 4 and MP3 6 there's a CD 5 which I'm not sure why.

I got a retrofit kit ordered today, after reading this I cant wait to get my ipod back in the car. I really miss it and having to burn playlists for the cd changer, I wonder when the dealer can fit me in to get the ipod kit activated. I can fit the kit on Thursday night assuming it arrives on Thursday.
This post should be a sticky, I have seen recent posts asking about 2004 E60's and ipods..

I recently had my 04 545i fitted with the ipod interface, too, and it is freakin fantastic. Worth every penny.
Question, though...I've always been diligent to unplug my ipod each time I get out of the car because I noticed it continues to stay "powered on" or charge even after the ignition has been shut off and key removed. However, last night I forgot to unplug it. It hit me this AM and my heart sunk yet my car fired right up with no trouble at all. How did this not suck the battery dry? Does it eventually time out and shut down? Do you guys leave your ipods connected when not in use?
Thanks in advance.

from what I've gathered, the M-ASK (non-nav) unit does not support in-dash MP3s until sometime in 05. The cd changer port, however, can, with the iPod retrofit coding. The nav unit (CCC) can do both once it is MP3-retrofit coded regardless of build date.
BUT mp3 only works in the in-dash cd and dvd player and NOT in the CDC in the glove box. They did not say if the software version has been upgraded or not on the invoice, just said mp3 enabled but it took such long time to do just that.
I guess I can ask them next time about my software version.

On my 2004 545, the iPod was left in the glove box, always plugged in. I only removed it to update the music, never had issues with battery discharge. It powers down when the car does...
