Actually, I ended up using the ground point where what looks like the "fan connector" is mounted. That connector is also the one used by the Bruce miranda LCI Tail adapter.

My Ride: 04 545i sport, stick, L7, sat, nav. Charcoal/ runflat/ cdv delete. Suede headliner/ trunk, 3 way front speakers, four 8" subs in rear shelf, ACM, iPod dock in ash tray using gateway 500 with MP3 text and video on screen, MRTM aluminum pedals/ door pins, 10 farad cap, sound processor, line conditioner, 2 amps ( 4x100 and 2x200)

The way I described the IBS sensor and how it relates to adding electrical equipment to the car is correct. As long as you do not connect ground directly to the negative post of the battery the IBS sensor will work properly.
Here is some info that supports my claims.

It reads current draw using something similar to the Hall Effect... not by measuring current draw in series with the battery, it measures the magnetic field created by the current passing through the cable.
