I wonder how true those compatibility dates are. Another in a long line of disappointments from BMW. I don't think I'll ever get another BMW again....

The compatibility dates do not make sense since in the iPodyourBMW site it clearly states in the compatibility chart that "all" 3,5,6,and 7 series 2002+ are compatible. Even in this very document posted above on the first page where it says what models it is compatible with it lists all E60 and E61 and does not mention production dates or even have a footnote about production dates. Here's what is says:

"The interface is compatible with the following MOST Bus vehicles: 3 Series (E90, E91, E92), 5
Series (E60, E61), and 6 Series (E63, E64). However, this device cannot be used in conjunction
with the 6-disc CD Changer. 7 Series (E65, E66) retrofit coding for PROGMAN is not yet
available and will be released later this year
."

So I am not sure about the accuracy of the compatibility dates.

Just a guess, but I would bet that the 9/05 production date means that they only want to do the upgrade with cars that are running the version of PROGMAN that supports the playing of MP3's (from the CD Player).

They probably don't want to mess with having to upgrade the PROGMAN of every car that comes in as part of the IPOD integration.

I have an 03/04 production 530 and it was confirmed to me today by my local parts manager that the head unit in my car is a different part number from cars produced 03/05 forward. There may be a harware issue involved here as well.

We may need to get clarification from BMW AG as to what the difference in head units entials.

I think this just might be the case. And it just might be that this upgrade does not require *any* software upgrade if you car is already on a software version already supporting MP3. That, then leads me to believe that this may be a plug and play upgrade not requiring anything except the part! I hope this is the case.

My wife ordered it for her car today. The parts guy said there are 187 of these backordered in the U.S. already. He had no idea when it will be coming in. To top it off, we had to pay for it now (as if the dealer will not be able to sell it to someone else if we backed out)!

We'll see how long it takes to get.

BMW sucks and I own one. My 10/03 production E60 cannot get NAV installed and now I can't get iPOD adapter installed. This is b*ll sh*t.

It will work with your early production E60 (same situation as mine) after a software update is released in September.
