"Aftermarket" storage bin for US models?

A month or so ago there was a little discussion about the possibility of replacing the dash panel under the headlight switch (I think) so as to provide a storage compartment there.

Has anyone made progress with that?

Nope. Been to busy the last few weeks to get anything accomplished. I still haven't ordered my new air vents yet.

That "european cubby hole" is a must have for me. I'm hoping that some info. surfaces as to how to get that done in the US.

If you can retrofit the cubby lid its well worth it, surely just a std BMW part. I have had both and its a massive improvement on E60 storage.
