I didn't get the tube. Did anyone else with a 545i get the tube?
The 545i doesn't require one - take a look at the 550 setup. The stock MAF sensor attachment tube for the 550 is moulded into the upper part of the airbox - it cannot be seperated from the airbox. It looks like AFE figured it would be better to simply make a one-piece unit from the throttle body to the CAI. On the 545I, the MAF is detached from the stock airbox and is an attachment point for the AFE CAI, thus negating the need to replace the entire tube assembly (and reducing manufacturing costs in the process). Take a look at the stock pics below:

550i (image from E60.net engine information section)

and how the CAI attaches:

550i with AFE CAI (TX-T.Silver's 550i)

545i with AFE CAI (minus heat shielding - r1racer's 545i)

545i with AFE CAI and heat shield (advancedlogic's 545i)

Hello Everyone... I have a 08' 550 Sport Automatic and was thinking about getting a CAI & Sprint Booster. Which CAI & SB is best for my car & where could I buy these? Thanks

As for CAI, go with AFE or Dinan. Depend on how much you want to spend. Dinan gives you the warranty and a dual intake...check out Dinanbmw.com

As for Sprint booster....I think there is just one kind.

This was a question posed to me and my answer.......anyone else want to give their response!

Please let me know if you notice a performance improvement besides better throttle response.

Thanks,

Hey there,

My opinion on the AFE.....It definitely produces a different sounding growl coming from the V8. You can tell it is sucking more air into the engine. Almost sounds more like an american muscle car engine (sort of like the Mustang SVT engine) This is what is supposed to give the increased HP, torque, etc.

In reality (now remember I have only had a couple of days and just drove it for the 1st time last night), I don't know if the increase HP is noticeable. After all, we are probably talking about 4-7hp gain. I don't know if that is truly appreciable without putting the car on a dyno. It is not going to snap your neck back or anything like that. It did seem that at any given RPM, my MPG needle was riding a little higher, so hey maybe better gas mileage.

Like I said, I am still trying to decide my verdict on it. I am into modding and that is my main reason. It won't give your 550 M5 like power.

Hope that helps.
Steve

So can anyone get the AFE CAI or Sprint Booster for my 08' 550? Or do you recommend looking elsewhere? Thanks for your reply.

Have a question. I noticed after a 10 min drive tonight that my CAI tube going from air filter to the throttle bodies (the velocity stack referred to earlier) felt pretty hot. Is that normal??
