since i've taken it off, i haven't gotten a CEL code since MFestt. i took it off right before driving up, the extreme heat in Vegas concerned me.

and no need to contact aFe, i've already sold it. thanks again.

The AFE intake did lose power...Very disappointing. When the hood was open it did gain a lot on top, but the it lost low/mid range power. I have contacted AFE on this.

As for the other's there are no independent dyno test, so I can't say anything about losing power. I know for a fact that the 535/335 intakes did make power even with the hood closed.

John (Macfly) - did you contact AFE about the error light? Non of my other customers received an error light. Let me know.
Any dyno stats? Havn't installed mine yet and now I'm nervous

So is there anything definitive about a 545i and the AFE CAI?? I'm just about to buy one, but not if it's going to REDUCE power!

Buy it from someone who offers a money back guarantee, this way you can run to a dyno shop and find out if you gained HP. You have a V8 so you might get at least 3WHP. Not sure if it's worth the money though.

I felt a loss in power in the low-mid rpm range 1.5k-4k rpms, but felt a gain past 4k rpms, I have a manual transmission so I can feel the loss whereas in an automatic it would be hard to notice. I also noticed that the afe cone filter sucks a lot of hot air coming from the engine, so maybe that could be the cause of losing power? Anyways, I'm probably going to take it out soon, and put my K&n filter back-in with the stock airbox, but I do like the sound of the afe past 4k rpms.
