So, I'm ordering the CAI from Trinity and just came across a post stating that the CAI will result in a power loss. I have a 528 which is already not that powerful. Is this the case for others who have already installed? I have read many posts where people describe a gain in power, or at least they feel that there is an improvement. Post below:

Definitely happens on the M5, not sure about other E60's.

When the AFE kit was tested by Race Precision Inc on the M5 last weekend, it showed a power loss. But I've also seen a test done in European Car Magazine on an E39 M5 and it showed gains however the debate regarding that article is if they did it with the hood opened or closed; RPI did the tests with the hood closed.

Even an ape could understand that losing backpressure would have meant losing power.
But wow, now you have more sound.
Bucks wasted to go slower

i got rid of my aFe after 2 weeks after i went into limp mode several times, which never happened before or after the aFe intake beig installed.
Anyway to answer the thread's question, air intakes generally does not produce as much HP unless you're running alot of engine upgrades such as Exhaust, Headers, DPs, Chip, Cams, etc. If you have a stock car and plan on putting one, good luck. Most brands gain no more than 8HP crank! To me that's not worth it. Also, most people think they gained HP on their own BUTT Dyno and also to JUSTIFY their new purchase. The only way to reveal the truth is to take your car to a real dyno! Hope this helps.

The AFE intake did lose power...Very disappointing. When the hood was open it did gain a lot on top, but the it lost low/mid range power. I have contacted AFE on this.
As for the other's there are no independent dyno test, so I can't say anything about losing power. I know for a fact that the 535/335 intakes did make power even with the hood closed.
John (Macfly) - did you contact AFE about the error light? Non of my other customers received an error light. Let me know.

since i've taken it off, i haven't gotten a CEL code since MFestt. i took it off right before driving up, the extreme heat in Vegas concerned me.
and no need to contact aFe, i've already sold it. thanks again.
