Ok

Some advice needed here. Had my E60 for six months now, took it in for its first service since Ive had it. No real shocks there at all, cost quite a bit, but I had a Land Rover before so high garage bills are not new to me. However Ive been "umming and arrring" about getting ipod integration. So while she was in I asked the dealer (Scotthalls, Southampton) to quote me for ipod integration - ?165 for the parts (sounds ok), but ?325 for the labour! Now I love music but ?500 to integrate my ?236 ipod? I love my music, but I can buy another good guitar for that!

Anyone got any advice (especially in the UK/Europe where things cost so much more than it does for our friends in the US) regarding other 3rd party options? I believe there are some options such as the Dension? What sort of cost am I looking at?

Friendly advice welcome!

Yes I know the dilemma, always a tough choice between cars and guitars! If you can swing a journey up to Coventy try phoning Sytner there. They seem to specialise in IPOD installs at a reasonable rate, I got mine a year ago for about ?280 all in including s/w update on my old faithfull 2004 530D. They seemed to know what they were doing as well and were far more competitive than my local dealer who were up in the same price range as you had been quoted.

I was hanging out for two years for the Dension becuase unlike the BMW I-POD it does appear you can reach all your music on something like an 80GB Ipod. Last time I checked though Dension only works if you have Navigation installed and have a later 5 series model. I gave up and went for the BMW in the end, sound is great even if I can't reach all my albums or playlists

The BMW option sound like a lot of money in any case - Let me get this straight, with the BMW option you can't access all your music?

install it your self, its very simple if you already have a cd changer or prep for cd changer. Then take it to the dealer for coding and ipod retrofitting.

Spoke to BMW about integrating IPOD. The guy there said that there were some new hardware on the horizon that would provide better integration. Play the waiting game .... it might just pay off !

Why wait when you can go for a better integration with Dension Gateway 500...see my thread here :
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=52253&hl=

You get IPod integration, USB, and an extra Aux Input...I added an extra module for A2DP bluetooth integration with the GW500 and its awesome...

Hi all

I am about to get a 520d, it's a 57 plate without the media package. It will have Business Radio and CD prep but no changer. Would this denison device work in my car?

Thanks

Ben

if it can play mp3 cd's on the in dash slot (mp3 enabled M-ASK) and you activate your CDC (which will highlight CD, CD1,.....C5,CD6 in your entertainment menu), then you're ready to go...but activation and programming has to be done by the dealer via Progman Update...

so, it'll cost you extra $$$ for the update...this also depends on whether your dealer will want to update your car for the CDC retrofit since (i'm assuming) you're not planning to buy a CDC...
