I added an Orion 800.1 and a Kicker comp 10" in the trunk. I followed the DIY and tapped into one pair of the Sub leads coming of the factory amp. Since the Orion has high level inputs I ran straight to those, y'ing off into the left and right high level inputs, and sidestepped using a line out converter.

Now the weird part. When I turn the car on I will get no bass to the factory subs or the 10" in the trunk. If I unplug the high level connector from the Orion amp and plug it back in, then the bass comes on and everything is fine.

Any ideas as to why this is happening???

 

Well to followup, I switched to a Line out converter and that solved the problem. The LOC made the signal a little quieter so I had to use the bass boost feature on the amp and turn up the gain a bit. Also, I switched the phase on the amp so it inverts the bass frequencies and it great improved the bass response in the cab. BMW does a good job of insulating the trunk!! I may try a 12" woofer in the future, but so far the 10" sounds great in the cab.

 

you got pics of your set up? im interested in seeing your wiring and how u came about. i know there's a diy section, but just curious to see how you did yours.

by the way how do u remove the trunk carpet, u think u can explain in specifics and detail? it would really help thanks
