I have an '04 530i and my driver side headlight is no longer moving with the steering wheel. There are days when it works but most days it doesnt. I have read in similar posts that there is an ALC box or something like that that malfunctions. I took it to the dealer and they say I need a new headlight assembly. The light is steady pointing left. When i turn on the car i see it does adjust a little bit not as much as the passenger side. Any ideas? I would hate to have to buy new headlights.

my car was doing the same thing a few months ago as well....i was lucky enough to still be under warranty at that time and they replaced the whole assembly for me. they do that because they are idiots and cannot/too lazy to figure out what the problem is. well fast forward to a few weeks ago and the same headlight started doing it again but i was no longer under warranty....i took the headlight out to investigate and also read about the box underneath the headlight that controls it....i loosened the box, kinda made sure everything was connected tightly and screwed it back in. has been working good ever since lol....try that...i think since sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt it could be a bad connection so take your headlight out and make sure everything is plugged in tight.

btw: a headlight assembly from the dealer i was told costs $1400!!!

welcome to the forum and good luck

Thanks man, I will try that. All you have to remove the headlight is unscrew those 4 screws right?

Right, 2 big ones on top and 2 smaller ones towards the bottom. Be careful not to scratch the outside of the car when pulling the headlight out since it's pretty tight in there.

There is a DIY guide on how to remove the headlughts somewhere on the forum if you want to search for that for guidance.

Good luck
