The phone cradle. The old interface had a button on the holder that was designed to allow you to switch the bluetooth on/off. I had yet to own a single phone that supported that feature. BMW have now done away with that. So the new eject boxes, just have power and 6NF if you have it.
I'm now going to bother with the 6NF because then I will need to change my eject box base etc. Plus I can't choose my phones, I use what my company gives me - my current one is an HTC HD2. That doesn't have an 6NF cradle so I'll just use the 6FL interface instead.

Anyone know how the combos would work with no bluetooth/telematics in the car already.
Is this something that would need to be added?

The combox is the bluetooth module. So even if you never had bluetooth you could put the combox in, and then you will get it.
You will need the Telephone pre-wire at least to start and even then it is not 100% sure that the CCC/M-ASK will be able to talk to the Combox if that's what you have.
