Hey guys,

I am looking to remove the two resonators in the middle of the system and replace them with a Magnaflow X-pipe. What size are the stock pipes? How about the pipe leading up to the rear muffler/resonator?

I will probably replace the rear piece with a Cherry Bomb. I know, it's not exactly BMW 'classy', but it has a V8, and damn it, that 8 will sing!

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm trying to replicate this setup:

I will not do the dual setup. Any suggestions for tips?

Thanks for the help!

that's more or less what I did to my car for christmas, except I have an eisenmann race exhaust at the rear. I replaced the front resonators with a magnaflow resonated x-pipe and got rid of the rear resonators. sounds great, no droning, although if I had it to do over again i'd either put a longer magnaflow up front OR leave the front resonators and just replace the rear one with the x-pipe, It's not that it's too loud, it just lost some of the refinement. I did it in two stages, first I got the x-pipe and then a week later I removed the rear resonators. it had a nice tone to it with the rear resonator, infiniti like, but a bit too quiet. that's when i decided to ditch the rear resonator. yes, it's louder, but a bit less refined.

I do like it though. Note, the eisenmann race exhaust is still VERY quiet- don't try this at home with an RPI or a B&B, as results WILL differ.

[edit: dual pipes are roughly 2.25", single out back is 2.67 give or take, I usually use a 2.5 but i didn't have to on this car since i kept the stock y-pipe and the eisenmann already has the metric piping]

here are some pics of the work.

I believe the stock pipes are 2.25" I forgot. For the X-pipe, the exhaust shop supplied it. So no idea what they used or where they got it. If you're going with Cherry Bombs, the model number is 87510.

My original thread of my Cherry Bombs.

Guys,

Thank you so much for the help.

I spoke with a mechanic friend today and he was concerned about the welding. I am assuming you guys had the shop TIG weld. He seemed to be under the impression that the stainless steel stock exhaust (is it?) would be a pain to MIG.

Either way, I plan to get the parts together over the next week and try to make this a reality.

An alternative idea is to have two Cherry Bombs replace the front resonators and then just run turn-down tips...

That would be ridiculous... hahaha
