Does anyone know if they still make the 1 piece vent pipe (shown in picture attached)? Everything I've found has shown two separate vent pipes. Mine had the single 1 piece and I broke it taking it off.

I believe that the design has been updated to two seperate hoses, so that part may no longer be available.

They're pretty good for the n54 engines, but I fail to see the purpose of an OCC on the 545i. N54s have a serious issue with Carbon Build-up in the intake valves due to the Direct Injection. The 545i uses electronic fuel injection so I don't think the intake valves should be an issue with this car and engine.

Direct injection just means that they moved the injector from the intake runner to the compression chamber. (They're both electronically controlled) I think the difference is that with intake port injection the fuel has the opportunity to wash the oil coming from the CCV system off the intake valve - where direct injection does not.

I am late to this thread but have exactly that same problem with my 2006 X5 (white smoke from tailpipes after extended idle). The catch can idea is a great one given that every shop recommends replacing all valve seals. It seems like the Valve Seals definitely wear out on the N62 motors. The catch can solves the issue of oil getting past the seals but at some point the seals will still need replacing right?? Does the catch can fix work for 20,000+ or more miles before valve seal job still needs doing?? Or perhaps even longer?

I'm going on 33,000 miles with the issue and I was waiting for the All German Auto n62 tool to be released. Instead I've decided to sell the car and reduce the price to account for the cost of repairs. Switching to Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w-40 eliminated 95% of the smoking, to my surprise. I never implemented a catch can.

Thanks Dallas, yeah it seems like the smoking issue is not too damaging to the car short term although my mechanic said that if you go too long the extra oil clogs up the Air Injection Ports and then you get poor running and a Smog Test issue.
I think I will go with the Catch Can fix. Makes sense as a small amount of oil past the seals is not a big deal and the Catch Cans reduce most of it. I also heard that Changing to Mobil 1 10w-40 helps as well. Will try and let you know. Thanks again.

I am in Southern California. I think I will get a custom shop to do the install as Catch Cans are pretty normal on some race cars. Pretty small job though for a shop.
