Has anyone verified whether the 530xi is higher (off the ground) that the standard 530i? If so, would it cause problems when upgrading the tires to go with a with a larger aspect ratio tire in order to fill out the wheel well? For example, a 245/45-18, or 235/45-18, instead of the 245/40-18. I realize this may affect the speedometer reading, but my experience with BMW speedometers is that they all read 2 to 5 percent fast. The larger tire may correct this problem. Has anyone had experience with either of these tire sizes on a 545i?

I've got a 530xiT on order and I'm upgrading the tires and wheels. Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

I have a 530xi sport and it is a bit higher, but not as significant as I initially thought. The other day I parked next to a 530i non-sport and both cars looked near the same height. I cannot imagine it will make a difference in choosing your wheel/tire combo.

I would not change the cars original tire aspect ratio!

The German engineers have an idea why the tires are the size they are. All the iDrive and other intelligence on the car is based on sertain mesures.

A speedometer, have to by law, show measures not higher the real values.

Go for 18" wheels if you like but do not change to wheels that are not recommended, for safe and pleasure driving.

Thanks for your response...I think you are probably right in advising not to change the aspect ratio. No one else has suggested otherwise.

FYI, the xi models are 14 mm (0.6 in) higher than the corresponding i models.
