Is this an "official BMW" re-mapping or would this void the warranty on a new vehicle?
No risk no fun.

Yes, it would void the warranty, if proven to be the cause for a fault. A good remap will not be detectable at dealer level as such. The could raise a suspicion on a turbo'd car by higher air stream, etc. but could not prove it. The ECU would have to be sent to HQ to be fully read out.
On a normally aspirated engine, they couldn't even tell by any values, as the best parameters they could see are due to the turbo.

I am not worried for a penny on the warranty side, as they usually just do the warranty work and then just invoice BMW HQ. See it that way, warranty work makes a dealership about the best money, as they can charge their full whack to BMW HQ. On an extraordinarily high claim (total engine) they might wanna sniff.
Never ever heard of a single one.

Some tuners tell you they sell insurances to avoid that case. Usually not worth the paper they're written on.

Still, no 100% guarantee.

Hey guys,

Im in Malaysia and as you would know, remaps arent exactly common-place here...

Is there any particular brand or tuner website i could visit and then correspond with them and make arrangements to have it installed?

Im driving a 06 525i with the N52 and would REALLY love abit more of a pull everytime i mash the pedal..

Thanks once again for all the responses..

Best Regards,
Kenny

FWIW, a friend of mine owns a BMW race team here in the US. He's also a driver in the Speed World Challenge Touring Car Championship (on his own team). They have been preparing several E90s for competition, and he has told me in previous conversations that the only meaningful horsepower gains can be derived from sport cams.

This press release dated May 10th claims his team is the first in the US to be racing E90s.

It has been a while since we've talked about this subject, I'd be happy to ask him and report back.

You can get an official tuning under warranty at your dealer... this is how it is in Europe but I don't know the rules in US...

I think aftermarket offerings have to be official Dinan products in the US to be installed by the dealer and get the blessing of BMWUSA.

I wonder what "meaningful horsepower gains" means to someone who is focused on racing as opposed to us "nomal' street drivers... As to the need for a sport cam, I thought that the double vanos system gave pretty complete control over valve lift and timing and would be able to emulate an actual sport cam.

Could this really be a fact?

Remapping and tuning always quits the garantee, at least in EU.

To remapp a non-turbo gas engine, for everyday use is, in my mind,
only a high risk and some + 15 hp is not worth it.

Racing is an other ball game.

Dinan will assume the warranty from BMW. But in the US (at least in most states) to void the warranty the modification has to be the cause of the failure of the modified component. So if you remap the engine and a problem turns up with the axle or trim then BMW has to prove that the remap was the cause of the axle or trim failure.
