I couldn't help but laugh at flacid in the title. Since you're new here I'll help you out before other people say it in a meaner way but searching works wonders.
As for aftermarket exhausts, there are a lot of companies: RPI, Remus, Eisenmann, Magnaflow to name a few. They all produce great sounds and depending on what kind you get, can have positive or negative effects.

OK thanks for that!, I heard that the er shall we call it 'down turned' exhaust was downturned for a reason, something to do with diesel particulate filter somethingorother....and if your car didn't have this fitted you shouldn't have an exhaust fitted that wasn't down turned.
Or is that just rubbish and you can put anything on?
Would still like to hear from anyone who has fitted something to an E60 530d that composed of a less restrictive cat etc that together with a re-map produced a relevant increase in HP.

I didn't like them either so cut them back and bolted on some trims. looks alot better and has now been on over a year with no problems.
It's a quick cheap fix.

Most aftermarket, and probably genuine BMW tailpipes now all come straight out, regardless of dpf fitment.
RealOEM doesn't have the downturned ones listed IIRC.
The rear boxes are the same, apart from the pipes (on the equivalent model of course).
As you are running a pre-dpf diesel, all this means is that when you boot the throttle, you'll see more smoke as it's directed staight out, rather than onto the floor.

did a bit research on replacing exhaust system - but most only offer rear box only - helps with back pressure - remus , schnitzer , etc but all very pricey
