My Ride: 530d SE - silver grey, black leather, auto, active xenons, active steering, bluetooth, business satnav, 6cd, poplar wood trim. chipped by West tuning - 260bhp - more torque than Ican use and still 37mpg !! fantastic!!
Previous bimmers.. 318is, 323coupe, Z3 1.9 and 2.8, E39 540 sport, E46 330ci convertible (still want an 840!!)
Hi,
just had my 2004 530d remapped by West Tuning in Andover (Thruxton race circuit)
Ray does a great job, no plug mod, he measures it on a rolling road, dowloads the various programmes, cracks a few codes and the remaps to a bespoke profile - reruns it on the rolling road --- result - amazing!!!
He doesn't adjust fuel rail pressure or turbo boost - just injection timings, durations and gap between the two injections per cycle
the stats
measured
214.7bhp @ 3805 -----------> 259.5bhp @3819
364.2lbft @2201 -------------> 410.4 lbft@2494
or
493.8 Nm --------------------> 556.4Nm
These are max figures - the important part is 'increase in area between the curves' and its there - all the way!
http://www.west-tuning.com/index.html
cheers dave
feels incredible - traction control light on in 2nd, 3rd in the dry
why bother with a 535??
Not sure about impact on fuel - supposedly none - although I have been 'exploring the envelope' - sanity returns next week!!
gets my vote!

Because then you can have 344bhp and 506lb ft (that's 685Nm ) from your remap. Or put another way, 0-60 in 5.5, 170mph and 0-100 in 13.4 seconds.
Because the torque delivery from a chipped 530d, even if the peak figures get close, cannot be over as wide a rev band as from a 535d - I'm happy to take my (currently standard) 535d down the strip against your chipped 530d to test this theory though!

Your missing the point
I posted to share info on a good company to do business with - not an attempt to say mine is bigger than yours, I'll leave that to the max power readers

It's unbelievable what those engines seem to be able to take. Other that the power and torque, does the engine feel any smoother or quieter.
Just wondering on a few other points:
1) What effect is it REALLY having on the engine re longevity. If u are planning on selling it soon is it then the case of pity the poor bugger who buys it next?
2) When u do sell, will have it de-mapped so to speak? And will they charge the same for doing it.
3) Doe the mapping/de-mapping leave a finger print. Will anyone running diagnostics see that the innards have been tampered with?
4) Does your insurance company need to know?

Dave, I don't think I did miss your specific point of "why bother with a 535??" (or did you not say that? ;-) ). Your post directly implied that the 535d was redundant in the light of being able to chip a 530d - I was just proposing a counter position, which you're free to disagree with, but preferably without sinking to "max power" name calling.
However, on the subject of West Tuning, I've spoken to Ray in the past about other projects and would know of their excellent reputation - they actually engineer quite a lot of mechanical parts that other tuners claim as their own in their conversions for other marques - I'd agree with you :-)

Genuine interest - can you post your dyno graph?

I have DMS's 535d demo car sitting on my drive right now.
It's a ****ing missle! Honestly, utterly amazing performance.
