Hi!

I'm thinking about getting Breyton chip for 530d. Dealer promises 262hp/600Nm.

Now I'm just thinking that can the manual gearbox handle that kind of torque?

Does anyone know any specs about the gearbox? How much can it hanlde etc.?

The chip itself is not very expensive, 750?. But if that kind of power breaks the box or axles, it will be expensive...

Anyone had any experiences about chipping?

-waiting for joyride-

The 6 speed manual gearbox and the 6 speed auto gearbox can handle 600 Nm of torque according to the BMW info.

Do you have a Euro IV car (straight pipes)?

As far as I am aware, these diesel tuning chips are designed for the old Euro III versions. So you won't be able to get it yet.

However, if you have new up to date information that contridicts this, could be excellent news.

This is interesting information. I did not know that it wasn't possible to tune a euro IV engine.

I didn't actually mean it to come across like that. What I should have said, was that the tuning chips they originally developed are for the Euro III engines and are incompatible with the new ones.

So it's not that they can't be tuned, the tuning comapnies just have to go through a new development process for Euro IV.

First of all my English isn't the best of all so if I interpret something wrong it is my mistake (I should speak better english) and not your way of writing things down

What if someon puts a euro III chip in his car.. I think it could work only you would not compy to the euroIV anymore. Or is there something else that makes it impossible to do???

No apparently the mapping is completely incompatible, so I think there would be serious engine management problems.

However, I am not too sure what the very latest information is - I found all this out back in April when I first gor the car. Maybe drop a quick line to Bird's Auto - they do the Hartge chip (essentially I think ACS/DMS/Hartge all do exactly the same thing) to find the very latest information.

I have been put off the idea slightly for now, because I have the service inclusive package - and it is invalidated by aftermarket tuning. I think I will have a look at it again when I get to 60k miles, which is when service inclusive ends. (it might save me from wanting a whole new car )
