Imagine that. A car designed and built in Japan having a very Japanese feel. Who'd a thunk it!

...and for a long commute, you would really get to enjoy the sporting nature of the car on a daily basis. ...
Not unless he's driving through the mountains or an extremely curvy road. Not much difference between any cars driving a steady speed straight down the road, be it a Yaris or a DB9.

That's exactly what it's supposed to be. Only, it's not.

Check his updated post - abbmw will be commuting everyday and 100mi/day ... no lease deal will work with that mileage! And, the depreciation for high mileage on most cars will be a killer!

An E550 for $30K?? Only a scrapped one!

I've driven the latest gen RL. Might as well be driving an Accord. A Civic Si is waaaaay more fun!
lol. btw, i do like the civics and accords.
really? you don't think the RL is better than it's japanese counterparts?

maybe i need to go back and drive one.

Funny, I'm with a 25k budget and I'm looking at 05 E60's or the Acura TL. As a former E60 guy I'm biased! In any event what the Japs can't get right is the interior......I actually looked at an RL and found it way more offensive than the TL. Too much chrome inside and they look like they crammed a boombox in the center console. I don't want light's, switches, dials coming out the wazooo! Look at an infinity...god that interior is ugly! BMW has understated eligence......problem is for my pocketbook I may be forced into the TL......There are only a few E60's in my range but there are over 70 TL at a dealer near me all within my range......

Another option might be a looking at Lexus. You could get a nice IS350, IS250 AWD, GS, ES, or the bigger LS. I use a Lexus LS that I put alot of hard miles on for my work. When I mean hard I mean hard. My car will run/idle for around five hours a day (when in the field), stop and go over and over for about 50 to 75 miles a day(similar to being stuck in a traffic jam all day every day for hours on end), and restart the car around 30 times a day. In 6 years of ownership all I've had to do is oil changes, brakes (twice), tires, and a starter. Otherwise problem free and just about to 200K. I got guys who work for me who have gone through two cars in that time and now on there third. They just start falling apart or just isn't worth sticking more money into them. Good MPG on the Lexus's also. If your leaning more towards the sporty side go drive a an IS350 or GS. You don't quite get the overall handling feel of the BMW but its isn't bad either. More then you'll ever need commuting. Lexus might not be the most sexy choice but for racking up miles, comfort, and reliablity they are just about impossible to beat. Your Acura RL your looking at isn't bad either. Guy at work a TL he has over 200K and basically nothing but maintance.

BMW's are great (I own one now and have owned 7 series in the past). But I'd never use one for basically racking miles up on. Just my two cents.

P.S.: Since your putting so many miles on you ever think of just buying a 4 to 5 year old Toyota Camry, Corrola, Honda Accord, Civic, Acura TL, etc. etc. and just drive it into the ground. Those few I listed can eaisly go past the 200K point will just simple maintance. Spend like 8K to 12K now. Then buy yourself a nice weekend car like BMW Z4 or Porsche Boxster next spring.
