He doesnt plan on paying it.. but I am sure it will follow him. Front tints are illegal in MI, where he is registered.. I got a parking ticket out of state last year, which I didnt pay. I then got it in the mail a couple months later with threats that they will turn it over to a debt collection agency if it wasnt paid. So Im sure he will end up paying for it eventually.
Yea they will send him to collections...i got a ticket in iowa and was like screw iowa. They mailed me it with threats, so i paid it.

That sucks you would think chi-town police have better things to do. I live in lincoln were there is maybe 3 major crimes a year and the crime rate is extremely low. I still dont get ticketed for it. I have 20% all the way around with light interior so it looks pretty dark.

Aren't there enough real criminals and criminal acts sufficient to keep people in law enforcement busy? Oh, yeah, I forgot, catching and incarcerating criminals costs departmental money, which politicians don't want on their watch, and is such an inconvenience. Much more lucrative for governments to spend time taking law-abiding taxpayers' money through frivolous fines since they're sure to pay, since they are, of course, law-abiding citizens. Criminals don't pay taxes and don't pay fines, so why not target people who look as if they can pay?

I think one of the main reasons for the law was that
tinted windows were associated with gangbangers.

This gave the cops a reason to pull them over and search the car.

Funny I was reading something like this last night on a cop forum...basically if you are driving on their roads then you have to abide by their laws.
So if I am in NY and don't have a front plate since I'm from PA, I'd get a ticket? I don't think so. I don't see a difference with the tint issue. I'd never pay that ticket. A parking ticket is one thing, but tint from another state? Please! If this was true, then every car from FL or wherever with dark tint entering PA would get a ticket, and I doubt these folks are peeling off their tint when they cross state lines...and laws.

Yeah....I agree....that's a bunch of crap. I lived in Cali for 10 years with FL tags, and had 5% tint on all 5 windows, and never had a problem......got a lot of stares from CHP, but never pulled over for it. Cali law is NO tint on front windows.
I think you could fight that one and win

If you are in a state, then those state laws apply. by driving on their roads, you are "availing yourself" to their jurisdiction. As far as plates go, every state has a time limit for the plates to be changed to the state in which the car is "garaged", and its usually within 30 days. So, if you are from Florida or Tennessee which only requires one plate, but then move to New York which requires two, then you have to have the registration changed within the time frame established by NY law.

The logical question is "but what if you tell them you are just visiting?" It has worked for me in the past, but if you get pulled over a few times, that may not fly. Technically, you have to have it changed.

+1 that is true. with the exception of the license plates because some states dont "issue" two plates. Tint is a law that will screw an out of stater

once i got a parking ticket and i forgot to pay it. like 2 years went by and the fine went way up. i told them "i never got a ticket" (who is to say someone didnt take it off the windsheild) they bought it, i didnt have to pay it. i am not an advocate for breaking the law, but what if the wind blew the ticket away? it is chicago...
