Hey everyone,

I have a 2006 530xi and I found a 2006 m5 v10 engine for sale at a very decent price. I was just wondering if anyone knows how much it would cost to do the swap if its possible, and what difficulties might there be with this swap. I actually don't even know if it's possible, but if it is I will definitely consider it if its not too expensive.

Somebody on this forum actually did that though I don't recall what engine he originally had. However, the guy got the parts at a great deal so it may be cheaper to get an actual M5. You would also need to change the suspension (heavier engine) and do alot of coding.

Mh... Not an easy job!
I'd suggest to supercharger your 530i.

I remember the member that did the M5 conversion was somewhere overseas in Europe or Asia. Apparently the numbers worked for him.
Search the forum a bit.

Will do, thanks guys.

By the way if it changes anyones opinion at all, the engine for sale that I am considering is only $1200 haha. It's a friend of mine. I'm gonna check with a local shop that specializes in BMW performance upgrades and see what they have to say.

Any other opinions, tips, suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I would wonder if the AWD system of the Xi can handle that kind of HP. It would be a shame to get it all in then destroy the tranny and transfer case first time you get on it. Not cheap to do and easier to just go get an M5.

I suspect that it would not work - I doubt that the X-drive and transmission can handle the power of the V10. Plus I am not sure whether the V10 will bolt up to the tranny.
