Currently my 530 cannot play MP3's, (12/16/03 build date). Is it possible to upgrade the iDrive software to allow this to happen? If so, who can do it, and also, how much would an update like this run?

Here is the scenario:

I brought my car into Motor Werks about 3 months ago to help me get my iPod iTouch to work with my car. They said no problem, we'll install the auxilary retrofit. Well, they couldn't get my iDrive to recognize the device no matter what they tried. They even tried another iPod unit an employee had. Nothing worked. They updated my iDrive so it now shows an auxilary option, but they actually had to call me back and say "sorry, we just can't do it, we've never come across this."

So I don't know what to do. They said it had something to do with my build date.

If you don't have NAV you probably out of luck, the MP3 bulletin ONLY apply for car w/ NAV (as the bulletin stated it's for CCC).

If you want to hookup iPod you may have to go OEM iPod interface module + retrofit re-programming.

OEM iPod interface will work without nav. just ask your dealer to do it and mention the bulletin. chances are they have no clue and will do it for free

The iPod interface will... the MP3 enable bulletin will NOT read the bulletin it's only apply for car w/ CCC means NAV equip car and car w/o NAV uses M-ASK (You do know that CCC is part of NAV equipment, right?) now take a wrong bulletin for a wrong car to the dealer the chance is you'll look like a fool.

Ditto. I had the BMW OEM iPod interface in my Jan '04 build 545 without Nav. But it is a different issue from the MP3 retrofit which is a warranty issue.
