This car is a clear example of 19s with no lip and looking GOOD

Even step-up lip HRE 20s can look smaller too but obviously if your spending 6 grand for wheels I would HOPE you are not worried about size as much as quality or ride.

If you want them to look big then anyone can buy some 2k dinky 20inch giovanna wheels or something.

Bottom line: 19s will GENERALLY have a smoother ride and feel more stock than 20s. Sounds like you are not concerned about size so I would do 19s and play it safe.
Looks like HRE 19's will be the choice. Thanks everyone for you feedback!!

I was at the dealer picking up my wife's new 330 when I saw a black 550 wearing these 20's (pictures attached). Sorry, I did not take pictures of the entire car. My 550 is on order arriving sometime during the first half of March. These wheels look real nice, however, I did not test drive the vehicle. There was another 550 with the 18" style 124 wheels and they looked tiny in comparison. The dealer is willing to swap the standard sport package wheels for the 20 inch wheels plus an extra 3 grand. My car is T-Silver so I'm not quite sure if the polished wheels will look or feel right. I'm looking into the same style 20 inch wheels with the standard finish as well. I'm not quite sure what style wheels the 20's are, but I've got the sales guy working on it.

However, I do have a concern over damaging these wheels very easily on the streets of L.A. and the "Bling, Bling" factor. I'm not too sure if it will "cheapen " the look of the car...in other words, not as classy. I'm a little on the conservative side and I don't want to give a bad impression to my clients. I do like the look though!

Interesting but for the moment and I think ever for e60 there is no 20"s BMW wheels only for 7er, and it is from the US as here in Europe even if look is ok, you never get a chromed wheel from BMW. I agree that w silver go w alu.

So, ATS77, you're saying that these wheels belong to the 7 series not the 5. I'm sure though that it's ok to use these on the 5 since the dealer actuall installed these on the 5. Does anyone know what model number these wheels are?

These wheels are Style 32 and were originally offered for the e65/e66 (7 series) here in the US.
Dimensions:

9 x 20 front w/ 245/40 tire Part no. 36 11 6 757 375
10 x 20 rear w/ 275/35 tire Part no. 36 11 6 757 376

I'm not entirely sure on the pricing, but I've got $480.00/wheel front and $495.00/wheel rear.

Your stock sport package wheels plus an additional $3,000 seems a little steep. I would try to sell your stocks on ebay and purchase a very similar looking (to style 32 since you like them) aftermarket wheel.

19's OEM from 645 sport, with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx Tires. Ride is really nice with 19's and non run-flats.

I think 19' wheels are good for all round driving and looks, 20's do look better. However I stuck with 19's because of pot holes and just ease of use....

Regardless of the "dinky" look, how is the ride with your current 19's? Is it relatively the same as the stock setup? Have you driven an e60 with 20's?
The drive feels the same as stock, but I'm sure stock (with those big fat tires) are a lot more ride friendly.

My friend has a set of 20's on his e60 (not lowered) and it feels just a tad bit more harsh than mine, but not bad at all. IMO the small sacrifice you give up for ride quality is worth having the 20's, which is a bigger and better looking wheels. They seem more proportional with the E60 body. The way I look at it is if I get tired of the ride quality I can always sell them and go back to my 19's.

Couple things...

Ralph C, any chance you could sneak just a side shot or two of that 5 with the type 32's on it? That is the direction I was going. Nice wheel, reasonably priced, and easy to sell if you want out. Probably not chrome for me, but I sure would like to see....
Also, remember that a great deal of the ride quality on these 19 and 20" setups is related to tire brand. Not going to light that fire, but most of us know that one or two certain brands have markedly better ride quality than many others.
